South Korea’s new president marks Memorial Day

South Korea has marked the 70th Memorial Day with new President Lee Jae-myung leading his first state function. In the meantime, at an event near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, activists called for Lee to follow through on his pledge to improve ties and seek peace with Pyongyang. President Lee has said he will maintain the country’s alliance with the US but also said he will pursue dialog with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
