A major land convoy comprised of North African volunteers has been organized to head to Palestine through Egypt to break the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The land convoy, consisting of thousands of volunteers from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, will depart on Monday towards Gaza to demand an end to Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, break the siege, and deliver humanitarian aid.
The “Resilience Convoy” aims to go to Cairo, and then to the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, to deliver aid in a joint effort with a freedom flotilla currently at sea heading to Gaza.
The convoy includes union and political figures, as well as human rights activists, athletes, lawyers, doctors, journalists, and members of youth organizations, among others.
Meanwhile, Madleen, a humanitarian aid vessel attempting to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza, has already entered Egyptian waters en route to the besieged Palestinian territory.
The International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza said on Sunday that Madleen had passed through Alexandria on its way to Gaza.
“The coming hours will be most critical,” it said as the Tel Aviv regime aims to stop aid from reaching Gaza.
Climate activist Greta Thunberg is among 12 international campaigners aboard the Madleen. “Game of Thrones” actor Liam Cunningham and Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament of Palestinian descent, are also onboard the vessel.
Israel has threatened to prevent the vessel from reaching the besieged coastal enclave.
Earlier in the day, organizers reported attempts by Israelis to jam the vessel’s signal and obscure its location.
Despite the clear and present danger posed by the Israeli forces, organizers are determined to proceed. “We don’t believe in the impossible,” said convoy spokesperson Wael Naouar.
The Israeli regime’s war minister, Israel Katz, has threatened to block the aid ship from reaching Gaza, accusing Thunberg and fellow activists of being “Hamas propagandists.”
“To the antisemitic Greta and her fellow Hamas propagandists — I will say this clearly: You should turn back, because you will not make it to Gaza,” Katz said on Sunday.
Katz said that he ordered the Israeli army “to act against the flotilla.”
The Madleen, operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, set sail from Sicily last week carrying urgent humanitarian aid for Gaza, including baby formula, flour, rice, desalination kits, medical supplies, and prosthetics.
Israeli drones hit a vessel operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Conscience, in international waters off the coast of Malta on May 2.
In the meantime, the Palestinian people in Gaza have been suffering immensely from the Israeli siege, famine, and war crimes for more than 20 months.
The Israeli regime launched its genocidal war on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023. Since then, it has killed nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to health authorities in Gaza, and flattened much of the coastal territory.
