The 33rd Meeting of the Chiefs of Defence Forces from the Member States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is underway in Arusha where, among other things, it is discussing in detail issues of defence and security in the region over the past year,

Recommendations from the session are expected to be presented at the ministerial meeting of the Political, Defence and Security Cooperation Organization in the SADC region, which is also scheduled to be held in Tanzania at a later date.

Arusha Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, officially opened the meeting and officially welcomed military leaders from SADC member countries.

In his opening speech, Makonda urged the guests to use the opportunity of the visit to visit tourist attractions in Arusha and neighboring regions, such as Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire, Arusha National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Serengeti.
