Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa has said the Government will continue to protect and empower people with disabilities, including those with albinism by ensuring they have access to appropriate economic and social opportunities.

Addressing the culmination of the International Albinism Awareness Day celebrations, held today, June 13, 2025 at the Mwanga Centre Stadium in Kigoma region, Majaliwa said the Government has continued to take specific steps to enhance the welfare and provision of essential services to people with albinism, including identifying the group, strengthening policies and service systems.

In ensuring that people with disabilities are economically empowered, the Prime Minister has said that until March 2025, an amount of 5.48 billion shillings has been provided to 891 groups of people with disabilities through council loans derived from local revenues.

In addition, he explained that subsidies to associations of people with disabilities have increased to 230 million shillings for the 2024/2025 financial year, compared to 200 million provided the previous year.

Regarding health, Majaliwa said the Government, through the Central Medicines Depot (MSD), has spent more than 500 million shillings between July 2021 and June 2024 to distribute special skin cancer prevention oils to people with albinism in all 26 regions of Tanzania.
