As the world celebrates World Environment Day on June 5, Geita Gold Mining Limited – GGML – in collaboration with the Government, has launched an environmental campaign aimed at eradicating plastic pollution and sensitizing the community about environmental protection.
This year, the theme is “End Plastic Pollution in the Environment”, where GGML has joined forces with the National Environmental Management Council – NEMC, local government leaders, private organizations, the media and schools to convey this message to the public.
Nyakabale, Nyamelembe, Manga and Mgusu primary schools have been involved in hygiene activities and environmental education for students, to build early understanding of the importance of a clean and sustainable environment.
In addition, the cleanliness activity at Nyankumbu Market aims to engage traders and residents in environmental conservation practices and alternative use of plastic to reduce non-biodegradable waste.
This celebration also coincides with GGML's 25 years of presence in Geita region, demonstrating the company's continuous efforts in caring for the environment, improving community life and supporting national and international agendas on sustainable development.
