The government has called for a special strategy to provide education to citizens living in border areas during the border strengthening exercise between Tanzania and Rwanda, to avoid misinterpretations about the process.
Speaking on behalf of the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Ngara District Commissioner Colonel Mathias Kahabi said the education will help the community understand that the exercise is a step to strengthen relations and not to separate brothers on both sides of the border.
Colonel Kahabi explained that Tanzania and Rwanda have close ties built through trade, diplomacy and social activities, so strengthening the border is a bridge to maintain that cooperation.
The Director of Surveying and Mapping from the Ministry of Lands, Hamdouny Mansoor, said the plan is part of the African Union's agenda to strengthen all borders of the continent by 2027.
A session to discuss the plan is being held in Ngara starting today, June 9, 2025 and will continue until June 13, 2025, involving experts from both sides with the aim of ensuring that the process is implemented peacefully and successfully.
