Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, has said the Government has begun preparing a database for sign language interpreters in the country to identify them and develop their training.
He said that so far, there are more than 300 sign language interpreters in the database, for whom the government is continuing with plans to increase their skills in international sign languages.
He said this in Parliament today, June 2, 2025, while responding to a question from Special Seats Member of Parliament, Stella Ikupa, who wanted to know the government's strategy in making sign language an official language of communication.
