A fire that broke out at around 8:00 am today in Buseresere Ward, Chato – Geita District has destroyed 10 shops selling various products.
Witnesses to the incident said they saw a fire start in one of the shops selling electrical appliances. Within a short time, the fire spread rapidly and engulfed other shops in the vicinity.
The efforts of good Samaritans to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful until the Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene and cooperated.
Some businessmen were unable to save their property due to the speed of the fire, while others managed to save part of their property after arriving at the scene early.
Acting Commander of the Fire and Rescue Service in the area, Peter Nkwabi, said the cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations are ongoing.
