Arusha Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, has met with leaders of the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) and the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), in a special session aimed at discussing how to use railway and dry port infrastructure to boost the region's economy. Speaking at the session, Makonda said Arusha region has a great opportunity to become a hub for trade and tourism, due to its geography and available resources. For his part, TRC Board Chairman, Ally Karavina, noted that there is already a plan to rehabilitate the Arusha to Dar es Salaam railway, as part of efforts to increase train travel speed to an average of 70 kilometers per hour. TPA Director General, Plasduce Mbossa, called on businessmen and investors to seize the investment opportunity in the Arusha Dry Port project, noting that the authority is ready to issue permits to any institution or individual interested in investing. #Azamnewupdate
