The Executive Director of the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO), Lazaro Twange, has asked regional and district heads in the country to lead by example in using alternative cooking energy to protect the environment in line with the national goals of ensuring that more than 80 percent of citizens use clean energy by 2032. Twange made the call to regional commissioners in some districts of the Lake Zone when he visited them and distributed gifts of alternative cooking utensils. "The stoves we provided to these leaders use less electricity and are a good example of the use of kitchens that will help increase awareness among citizens after they have experience with them," said Twange. Among the regional commissioners who were provided with the stoves and education on the benefits of using these alternative energy stoves are Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Saidi Mtanda and Simiyu Regional Commissioner, Kenan Kihongosi. Others are Nyamagana District Commissioner, Amina Makilagi and Shinyanga District Commissioner, Julius Mtatiro. The visit of the TANESCO Director to the regions of the Lakes Region is aimed at inspecting electricity projects and increasing emphasis on the use of clean electricity for cooking as a continuation of the campaign being conducted by the organization to shape the government's agenda.
