Musoma Rural MP, Professor Sospeter Muhongo, has said that for Tanzania to make significant strides in economic growth and poverty eradication, three main sectors must be given priority for major investment — namely agriculture, mining, and services such as tourism.
Contributing to the debate on the Government's main budget contribution in parliament in Dodoma, Prof. Muhongo said that over the past 25 years, from 2000 to 2025, Tanzania's economy has been growing at an average rate of 5 to 7 percent.
According to him, the agriculture and mining sectors have the potential to contribute 55 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), if they are provided with an investment-friendly environment, technology, and infrastructure. He added that the services sector, especially tourism, is another area that can accelerate economic growth.
