The family of Tanzanian Juma Maganga, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison in South Sudan for beating a soldier to death, has expressed their fears for the fate of their brother if they fail to pay the 30 million shillings compensation ordered by a local court.
Despite the punishment, Rehema Mongi, Juma's wife, has told #AzamTV that the money must be paid before June 17, 2025, otherwise her husband will be killed or forced to perform servitude in the village where the soldier came from according to local laws.
The family is appealing to the Tanzanian Government, human rights organizations and other stakeholders to intervene and save the life of their loved one from this difficult and inhumane situation.
