The Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania has resolved to have a new procedure to strengthen the moral values of leaders, where from now on members of parliament will begin every first session of the Parliament by making a pledge of patriotism and integrity to the country.
The move is based on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Rules Committee regarding the Amendment to the Standing Rules of Parliament, February 2023 edition.
The proposals were presented to parliament in Dodoma by Deputy Speaker, Mussa Azzan Zungu, shortly after the question and answer period.
The goal is to ensure that parliamentarians carry out their duties with honesty, integrity and in the national interest.
