The solar power project being built in Kishapu district in Shinyanga region has reached 63 percent and is expected to be completed by the end of October this year.

This was made clear by Tanesco Director, Lazaro Twange during a visit to inspect the project which aims to contribute 50 Megawatts to the national grid once it is completed.

"This first phase will increase the power supply to the citizens and we thank the President because we have already been given money to find a contractor who will implement the second phase which will produce twice the electricity generated by this first phase," said Twange.

For his part, the project manager, Emmanuel Anderson, said the project has been delayed in completion after the contractor was challenged by the government through TANESCO to agree to extend the deadline from February to October, 2025.

Both phases of the project, which began implementation in December 2023, will cost 323 billion shillings and are expected to add 150 megawatts to the national grid.
