The government has commended the mining investment company Mamba Minerals Ltd for paying compensation of 5.3 billion shillings to 192 residents of Ngwala village in Songwe region as part of preparations to begin construction of a rare earth value-adding factory in the country.

The Government's congratulations were given by the Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, during the handover of the compensation to some citizens, which went hand in hand with the consolidation of the factory's construction plans.

The Chief Executive Officer of Mamba Minerals Ltd, Ismail Diwani, has said that the compensation payments have reached 116 out of 192 citizens.

"Construction of the project will begin in December 2025, along with the construction of a rare earths refining plant and the construction of a power plant that will produce 12 megawatts," said the Councilor.

For his part, Minister Anthony Mavunde has commended the company for its plan to increase the value of rare earth minerals before exporting them as part of responding to the call of the President, Dr. Samia S. Hassan, in the goals of growing the economy through the sale of products and creating jobs.

"This project, along with jobs, royalties, council taxes, will also provide the government with direct revenue of more than 12 trillion shillings," said Mavunde.

The project, with an estimated deposit of 18.5 million tons of rare earths, is among the world's largest rare earths projects and is expected to make Tanzania a producer of raw materials for medical devices, electronic devices and wind power generation.
