Israel’s aggression: Iran president urges Iraq to protect its borders, airspace

President Masoud Pezeshkian says the Israeli acts of aggression against Iran’s territory from the Iraqi airspace were a clear manifestation of the regime’s disregard for international law.

In a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shayya al-Sudani on Sunday, Pezeshkian urged Iraq to extend more protection of its borders and airspace.

“We emphasize that the Iraqi government must exercise greater vigilance and provide more protection of its borders and airspace to prevent any misuse of the Iraqi territory against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

“We did not begin the war, but we responded decisively, and if the [Israeli] aggression continues, more painful and crushing responses await the aggressors,” he added.

He noted that the Israeli regime has a dark record of attacking Muslim countries from Palestine and Lebanon to Syria and Iran.

“If this wicked approach is not stopped through the collective and powerful will of the Islamic Ummah, undoubtedly, sooner or later, other countries in the region will also be exposed to the aggression of this regime,” Pezeshkian warned.

He emphasized that all Muslim countries are duty-bound to stand firmly and decisively at all levels and in all international forums against Israel’s acts of aggression.

The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, said his country supports Iran and strongly condemns the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression at all levels.

Sudani said Iran’s retaliatory operation – dubbed Operation True Promise III – was not only a legitimate defense of the Islamic Republic’s territorial integrity but a decisive and crushing response to the Israeli regime, whose entity is based on occupation, crime, and violation of nations’ rights.

He noted that Iraq has submitted a formal complaint to the UN Security Council regarding the Israeli regime’s use of Iraqi airspace in the aggression against Iran, while legal, political, and diplomatic follow-ups are underway.

The prime minister said Iraq would carry out extensive measures to prevent the recurrence of such acts of aggression and to control its borders and airspace with more seriousness.
