The Palestinian Islamic Jihad has denounced the Israeli assassination of a prominent resistance official and 30 other individuals in Gaza City, stressing that such targeted killings will never undermine the resilience and determination of the Palestinian people.
The Gaza-based group, in a statement released on Sunday, stated that the killing of Sheikh Asaad Abu Sharia, secretary-general of the Mujahideen movement, just like other late senior resistance commanders will strengthen the determination and resolve of Palestinians from all walks of life.
It noted that such moves will inspire Palestinians to continue the path of struggle and confront the Zionist enemy much more resolutely than ever.
The statement added that the fallen chief of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement, and his brother Ahmed Abu Sharia, treaded a long path of jihad, resilience, and sacrifices confronting the Zionist regime, and were sincere in their loyalty to their beliefs and support for their nation.
“We emphasize that the targeting of commanders by the criminal regime will only beef up the determination of our nation to continue the path of resistance and defend our lands,” the Islamic Jihad movement stated.
The Israeli military resumed bombardment of Gaza on March 18, killing thousands of Palestinians, and injuring many others, after it shattered the 2-month ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas.
At least 54,772 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and another 125,834 individuals injured in the brutal Israeli military onslaught on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the besieged coastal territory.
