Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the level of political engagement and, more importantly, the degree of trust between Iran and Egypt is “unprecedented.”
Araghchi made the remarks in a post in Arabic on X, adding that he was pleased to be back in Cairo. “I had very important meetings with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty,” he wrote.
He said that after many years, diplomacy between Iran and Egypt has entered a new phase, marked by an exceptional level of political cooperation and mutual confidence.
As two influential regional powers with ancient civilizations, Araghchi said, Iran and Egypt share a responsibility to preserve peace, stability, and calm in the region.
He also said he had dinner with several prominent Egyptian figures, including former foreign ministers Amr Moussa, Nabil Fahmy, and Mohamed Orabi. “We had a very fruitful discussion,” he added.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Araghchi arrived in Cairo on Sunday night at the first leg of a two-nation trip, which would also take him to Beirut.
During a meeting with El-Sisi on Monday, the top Iranian diplomat hailed “useful and constructive” consultations and cooperation between the two “important” countries, saying both sides should proceed with interaction.
In a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart later on Monday, Araghchi said there is no obstacle to the improvement of ties between Iran and Egypt, adding that the two countries play an important role in establishing peace and security in the region.
