The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has announced that the modern railway project (SGR) is expected to arrive and start work in Mwanza in 2027 and Kigoma in 2028. The statement was made by the Director General of TRC, Masanja Kadogosa, when he arrived in Dodoma for the SGR along with about 600 CCM delegates from Zanzibar to attend the party's General Conference on May 28-29, 2025.

Kadogosa called on citizens, especially those living along the SGR and MGR railways, to be guardians of this vital infrastructure, stressing that the Government has invested heavily in social and economic benefits. He also said that the TRC will continue to educate the community on protecting the railways.

Meanwhile, 10 Tanzanians from London are among the special guests at the conference. One of them, Elizabeth Msabi, has commended Tanzania's move to build a modern railway infrastructure, saying that Tanzania's SGR is similar to that of Europe, while urging Tanzanians to be proud of this development.
